Director of Children's Choirs
Debby Shellard has been the Children’s Choir Director at GCC since 2002. She currently has two choirs, Primary Choir composed of kindergarten, first and second grade students as well as Voices of GCC which includes students in third through the eight grade. Her two choirs sing often in the worship service as well as participate in additional services throughout the year. One of the highlights of the year is the Children’s musical sermon presented in the spring during the worship service. In April 2014, both choirs will be presenting Godspell Jr. for the Good Friday service.
Prior to becoming the Children’s Choir Director, Debby was the Director for Membership at GCC from 1996 – 2006. Being a Methodist minister’s daughter, Debby has always participated in church and truly loves her current work with the children of GCC. Debby also teaches drama at Attea middle school to 6th, 7th and 8th graders and directs their yearly musical.
Debby attended Ohio Wesleyan University where she received a double major in music and theatre and went on to Ohio State University to obtain an MFA in acting. After several years of working as a professional actress and teacher at Apple Tree Theatre in Highland Park, she went back to school to obtain an M Ed from DePaul University. Debby has two adult children and her husband Jim, is an assistant principal at Glenbrook South high school.
